The office of Pro Peace North Macedonia, in cooperation with the partner organization Radio MOF, will produce 19 videocast episodes under the title Balkan Perspectives. The first 13 episodes, spanning from November 2024 to December 2025, with the subtitle Transitional Justice, aim to introduce and explore the concept of transitional justice in North Macedonia and the wider Balkan region. The hosts of these 13 episodes are journalists Kristina Atovska and Evi Shkopi, who, together with their guests, seek to foster dialogue, reconciliation, and collective reflection on post-conflict justice.
The first two episodes will provide foundational knowledge, explaining the importance of transitional justice, its key elements, and its relevance in the post-conflict context, featuring interviews with experts and stakeholders. Following episodes delve into specific issues and regional experiences: the effects of amnesty laws, Kosovo’s transitional justice mechanisms, victim reparations, Bosnia’s reconciliation efforts, psychological impacts of conflict, women’s roles in justice processes, Serbia’s struggles with recognition and memory, education as a tool for reconciliation, the role of religion in post-conflict societies, and finally, reflections on the future of transitional justice in the region.
Each episode combines expert analysis with personal testimonies, offering listeners a comprehensive understanding of the legal, social, and emotional dimensions of transitional justice while encouraging reflection on its ongoing relevance and challenges.
The remaining 6 videocast episodes, which will also be part of Balkan Perspectives, will approach the subject from a slightly different angle than the previous ones, focusing on Dealing with the Past. In the context of North Macedonia, this refers to the 2001-armed conflict, its consequences on post-conflict society, the process of confronting the causes of the conflict, and reconciliation. Each of these 6 episodes will have a different host, who will also be a professional or expert in the field that is the focus of the episode. Specifically, the six episodes will address six different societal fields, which are not directly concerned with politics, political processes, or the legislations resulting from the Ohrid Framework Agreement, but are nevertheless influenced by them. The fields that will be discussed in this series are Architecture and Urbanism, Youth, Film and Music, Literature, Sports, and Natural Sciences.
