Who we are
Founded in 1996, Pro Peace, an international non-profit organisation, is currently active in 13 countries in Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia. Civil society actors who are committed to peace and non-violence in conflicts form the focus of the organisation's work. Pro Peace advises and supports them, collaborates on projects and campaigns together for sustainable peace policies.
Pro Peace began working in the Western Balkans in 1999, focusing on dealing with the past, transitional justice, and peace education. Today, we have offices in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Serbia, working with local and regional partners on peacebuilding initiatives in areas such as youth and education, media, research, arts, and culture.
Pro Peace is a government-recognised member of the Civil Peace Service (CPS) consortium and a signatory of the Transparent Civil Society Initiative.
About the role
For its office in Belgrade, Pro Peace is seeking a full-time international Project Manager to initiate and implement its work in Serbia in close cooperation with other Pro Peace offices in the Western Balkans.The main focus of this position will be dealing with the past (DwP), and the Project Manager will be an active member of a regional project team, working with local and regional actors.
Please note: This is an international position. Applicants must hold citizenship outside the current programme countries (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Serbia).
You will join a committed team to co-develop meaningful, context-sensitive approaches, grounded in Pro Peace’s values of non-violence and building a more just and peaceful future.
Key responsibilities
- Contribute to the Western Balkans Program of Pro Peace as part of the country office team in Serbia and within the regional structure of Pro Peace.
- Initiate, design, and manage DwP-related activities with local and regional partners in line with the Pro Peace regional strategy.
- Encourage constructive public discourse on dealing with the past in Serbia and across the region.
- Manage projects and activities related to the position (including planning, monitoring, steering, and finance controlling) and in collaboration with the respective Regional Project.
- Establish and maintain strong partnerships with civil society actors and stakeholders.
- Support joint fundraising efforts with partners to sustain peacebuilding work.
- Report to the Country Director of the Serbia office and the relevant Regional Project Lead.
Your profile
- Advanced university degree in social sciences, humanities, or another relevant discipline (postgraduate studies are an advantage).
- Minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in civil society project design and implementation, ideally related to DwP, transitional justice, or peacebuilding.
- Solid knowledge of political and social contexts in Serbia and the Western Balkans, with a clear understanding of challenges in DwP work.
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills, with the ability to think strategically and reflect critically.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, intercultural sensitivity, and the ability to work in a team and under pressure.
- Experience in third-party fundraising with partner organisations is an asset.
- Excellent command of English (office language); proficiency in BCSM is a strong advantage.
- Confident use of IT office applications and social media.
- Valid driving licence and willingness to drive.
Our offer
We offer an attractive position with responsibilities for a minimum of two years in a growing, mission-driven organisation.
This is an international position under the German Development Aid Workers Act (EhfG) and is therefore only open to applicants who hold citizenship outside the current programme countries (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Serbia). The position is remunerated according to the provisions of this law, including comprehensive social security benefits and financial reintegration assistance upon return.

Start of assignment
Ideally, you are available to start working on 1st January 2026 (up to two years including a preparation period and work within the project).
