Caroline Wiegand, Executive Board Finance & Operations
Caroline Wiegand has been the association's Managing Director for Finance & Operations since February 2025 and is responsible for Finance & Administration, Fundraising, Human Resources, IT, Facility Management, and Risk and Security Management. She is also the managing director of the limited company and supports the foundation's board. She stands for leadership that closely links strategy, impact and operational implementation and positions organisations for a sustainable future, both financially and structurally.
Her professional background includes studies in political science and sustainable development cooperation in Galway, Göttingen and Kaiserslautern, as well as assignments abroad in Nigeria and Bangladesh. Her early career as a fundraiser in Ireland, including for Amnesty International, shaped her focus on social impact.
Over almost eleven years at the DAAD, she gradually assumed comprehensive management and supervisory responsibilities. Most recently, she headed the Finance and Policy Issues Division for Academic Teachers. She was responsible for an annual budget of around €30 million, managed the funding of 450 academics in over 90 countries, designed compliance and contractual frameworks, revised the guidelines with the Federal Foreign Office, supported international negotiations on double taxation issues and regularly represented the programmes at international conferences. In addition, she drove forward IT optimisation, impact-oriented monitoring and professional personnel development.
She deepened her commercial skills through IHK certificates and passed on her knowledge of finance and project management as a lecturer for many years. Her career shows a clear line: managing complex international programmes, using resources responsibly, developing teams and designing structures in such a way that they have a social impact. It is precisely this combination of financial expertise, international experience and value-based leadership that forms the basis for her role on the Pro Peace board.
She works on the basis of an inclusive, intersectional and equal understanding of society, guided by the principles of UN Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security, which she sees as central guiding principles for peace.
