
An independent commission of inquiry of the UN Human Rights Council confirmed this week that Israel is committing genocide – according to the report, at least four of the five elements of the UN Convention on the Prevention of Genocide are fulfilled, including targeted killings, physical and mental harm, the creation of conditions hostile to life, and measures to prevent births. The report names high-ranking politicians, including Prime Minister Netanyahu, as responsible.
The demonstration is an important sign of solidarity with the Palestinian population in Gaza, who are suffering under extreme conditions, and calls for international accountability and an end to arms deliveries. By calling for and supporting the demonstration, we are drawing attention to this serious human rights situation and increasing civil society pressure for an end to this war.
We condemn all war crimes and human rights violations, regardless of whether they are committed by Israeli or Palestinian actors. For us, international law and human rights always apply to everyone. However, in view of the mass killings in Gaza and the systematic destruction, we direct our main criticism at the Israeli government and its supporters.
