In Skopje, North Macedonia

OPEN FOR INTERNATIONAL CANDIDATES ONLY

Join our team working for peace and conflict transformation in the Western Balkans, based in Skopje, North Macedonia - starting January 2026.

Who we are

Founded in 1996, Pro Peace, an international non-profit organisation, is currently active in 13 countries in Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia. Civil society actors who are committed to peace and non-violence in conflicts form the focus of the organisation's work. Pro Peace advises and supports them, collaborates on projects and campaigns together for sustainable peace policies.

Pro Peace began working in the Western Balkans in 1999, focusing on dealing with the past, transitional justice, and peace education. Today, we have offices in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Serbia, working with local and regional partners on peacebuilding initiatives in areas such as youth and education, media, research, arts, and culture.

Pro Peace is a government-recognised member of the Civil Peace Service (CPS) consortium and a signatory of the Transparent Civil Society Initiative.

About the role

For its office in Skopje, North Macedonia, Pro Peace is seeking a full-time international Project Manager to work in partnership with actors of civil society in North Macedonia and the wider region, who are committed to overcome ongoing challenges to peace.

Please note: This is an international position. Applicants must hold citizenship outside the current programme countries (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Serbia).

In this role, you will work closely with other Pro Peace offices in the Western Balkans to co-develop context-sensitive approaches and implement activities that contribute to our regional programme. You will join a committed team dedicated to non-violence and building a more just and peaceful future.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to the Western Balkans Program of Pro Peace as part of the country office team in North Macedonia and within Pro Peace’s regional structure.
  • Initiate, design, and manage projects and activities with local and regional partners in alignment with the regional strategy (including planning, monitoring, steering, and financial controlling).
  • Encourage constructive public discourse on dealing with the past in North Macedonia and the wider region.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with local partner organisations and stakeholders.
  • Actively support fundraising efforts with partners to sustain peacebuilding work in the region.
  • Report to the respective Regional Project Lead and the Country Director of the North Macedonia Office.

Your profile

  • Advanced university degree in social science, humanities or another related field.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in civil society projects, ideally related to dealing with the past, transitional justice, or peacebuilding.
  • Solid knowledge of political, social, and historical contexts in North Macedonia and the Western Balkans.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills; ability to think strategically and reflect critically.
  • Proven experience in project cycle management; experience in third-party fundraising is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills; ability to work effectively in a team and under time pressure.
  • Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of Macedonian and/or Albanian is an advantage.
  • Confident in the use of IT office applications and social media.
  • Driving licence and driving experience.

Our offer

We offer an attractive position with responsibilities for a minimum of two years in a growing, mission-driven organisation.

This is an international position under the German Development Aid Workers Act (EhfG) and therefore open only to applicants who hold citizenship outside the current programme countries (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Serbia). The position is remunerated according to the provisions of the EhfG, including comprehensive social security benefits and financial reintegration assistance upon return.

We also offer participation in qualification and professional development courses (among others, at our Academy for Conflict Transformation), a project-based preparation, regular coaching and, if needed, participation in a language course.
