The launch served as a platform to share the main research insights and to showcase the contribution of youth-led approaches to environmental peacebuilding in Kosovo. The study was implemented by SIT Center for Counselling, Social Services and Research, in partnership with and supported by Pro Peace Kosovo, as part of the project Strengthening Networks of Youth and NGOs for Peacebuilding and Resistance of Communities in Kosovo.
The research followed an inclusive and participatory methodology, engaging more than 200 people from diverse backgrounds across Kosovo. Data was collected through key informant interviews, focus group discussions, and both online and face to face surveys. The findings highlighted the strong link between environmental challenges, mental wellbeing, and social cohesion, as well as the critical role young people play in addressing these interconnected issues.
A central element of the event was a youth-led panel discussion, which brought together young researchers and practitioners from four cities across Kosovo. Youth panellists reflected on their involvement in the research process, the capacity building trainings they participated in, and how they translated their learning into concrete community initiatives. These initiatives addressed environmental challenges while also promoting mental wellbeing, healthy communication, peace education, and dialogue across communities.
The discussion emphasized how youth in Kosovo are using environmental issues as an entry point for peacebuilding. Through community action, dialogue spaces, and trust building activities, young people are contributing to stronger social cohesion and more resilient communities. The panel also created space for open exchange between youth and institutional actors, increasing the visibility of youth-driven approaches within both the peacebuilding and environmental sectors.
Participants highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between youth, civil society, and institutions to ensure that youth-led initiatives remain sustainable and impactful over the long term. The event reinforced existing networks of youth and CSOs and encouraged continued collaboration on environmental peacebuilding and mental wellbeing.
