The discussion opened with a reflection on the influence of private, individual, and family memories, as well as pivotal historical episodes, and how these shape present and future relationships between societies in Kosovo and Serbia. Panelists explored how personal experiences are transformed into literary narratives, demonstrating how storytelling can illuminate broader political realities. Through their contributions, the authors showed how literature can bridge the personal and the political, offering insights into conflict, reconciliation, and the human dimensions of political struggle that are often absent from formal discourse.
Authors reflected on language, translation practices, storytelling, and narrative responsibility, emphasizing how literary work can challenge dominant narratives, open room for empathy, and contribute to a more nuanced understanding of the past and present. The exchange highlighted the power of storytelling to imagine alternative futures grounded in dignity and mutual recognition.
The audience actively engaged in the discussion, contributing questions and reflections on the role of cultural and literary exchange in overcoming prejudice, fear, and entrenched animosities. They were given the opportunity to receive copies of the publications and to follow the individual stories included in them.
The event underscored the importance of cultural spaces in fostering dialogue and understanding in times of ongoing uncertainty.
This event was held on 21 November 2025, in the framework of the “Mirëdita, Dobar dan!” festival, which took place in Prishtina from 20 – 22 November 2025. While there is now a time distance from these dates, this reflection serves as a way of looking back at some of the festival’s highlight activities and meaningful collaborations that continue to resonate.
It is important to recall that the “Mirëdita, Dobar dan!” festival has been banned by Serbian authorities in Serbia; underscoring the ongoing challenges faced by initiatives that promote cross-border dialogue and cultural exchange. The festival remains a vital platform for reconciliation, creating space for voices from Kosovo and Serbia to meet, listen, and engage beyond political divisions.
